We’ve hinted at it, we’ve spoken about it, but is it even possible? How can a tomato be grown indoors and you’ll still get fresh tomatoes from it? Get this, you can grow cherry tomatoes in an 8-inch pot! That means in a pot with a diameter of 8-inches, which is hardly space-consuming. But what about light, will it get enough light indoors?
Well, you have two options. Tomatoes need about eight hours of light each day to grow correctly. Easy to remember, right, 8 and 8. Guess what, your average windowsill gets enough! Just take that 8-inch pot and sit it beside a large enough window, and it’ll receive enough light. Don’t have a window available, no problem!
Here’s an industry secret — LED grow lights. You can find them on Amazon for $15, and you’ll have a permanent ‘sun’ at your disposal for years to come. Just put the light about the plant and turn it on and off at your pleasing until your plant is getting enough light. Just a friendly reminder to keep in mind; Too intense light can damage and even harm your plant, so make sure the light is not too close to the plant, and don’t run it on the highest setting all the time!
What about watering? You can use tap water from your sink! Just make sure the soil is consistently moist, and make sure you don’t overwater. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3. Plant the tomato seed about 1/8–1/4th of an inch deep and cover it lightly with dirt. Keep it watered with enough light, and in a week or two — you’ll have a tomato sprout. Friendly tip; try and plant multiple seeds spread out then after a few weeks of growth, thin the seeds to 1 per pot. In other words, plant four seeds in a pot, wait three or four weeks, then take all the plants out until only 1 is left. This will make sure you have a healthy strong plant!
There you go, you can now grow a tomato plant indoors! In no time you’ll be having fresh tomatoes with your salads! Cheers!!
